Two competitors from KICKS attended the AMA Championships. Matthew Knight (8) and Jack Donnelly (11) both from the Uckfield club.

Matthew was up first, and fought his way to the semi final where he met a more skilful opponent and lost by a narrow margin. However, he was in the repercharge and after a close fight lost to his opponent albeit seeming to have scored a head kick on the time buzzer which wasn’t given.

Jack also got through to the semi final scoring a lot of points. In the semi final he met an opponent with just a little more experience and lost narrowly. Jack was also in the repercharge. His opponent again was more experienced but Jack’s coach had been watching him and told Jack what to expect. He wasn’t disappointed. Jack managed to overcome his oppenent through a bruising encounter (perhaps the refs should have picked up on the contact) and won third place.

Well done to both boys. It was valuable experience.
