Sunday 20th February
Instructor Shane Kent took fighters Jamie Brown, Billy Brown, Regan Maher, and Joe Woollard to compete at the WKO English Open Championships under K1 Rules at Barnsley Metrodome.

Amateur A Class K1 Rules 14-years M 70.1-72kgs – Billy Brown
Semi Final (2 x 1 Minute Rounds)
Billy Brown v Lincoln Littler (Hamma Kickboxing Academy)
Billy put the pressure on his opponent and scored with the harder cleaner shots against an active and awkward southpaw opponent who appeared to have transitioned from either a taekwondo or points fighting background. Win to Billy.
Final (2 x 1 Minute Rounds)
Billy Brown v Tom Firth (Budo Martial Arts)
In this fight Billy’s opponent was hard hitting and trying to walk him down but Billy kept his ground and met him in the middle of the round winning the exchanges and putting some powerful knees in. Win to Billy.
K-1 English WKO Open Champion at 70kg (14-15yrs) Billy Brown

Amateur A Class K1 Rules 18-34 years M 75-78kgs – Jamie Brown
This was a category which started off with 8 fighters then dropped to 5 fighters and then on the day dropped to 2.
Semi Final (2 x 1 Minute Rounds)
Jamie Brown v Luke Monks (CTBA).
Jamie got into the ring and waited for his opponent but as his opponent did not enter the ring Jamie got a bye through to the Final.
Final (2 x 1 Minute Rounds)
Jamie Brown v Flaviu Andrei Ilie (Romania)
Jamie knew with a two round fight he had to start fast off the blocks; win both rounds and not concede any ground to his shorter stockier opponent. His opponent was trying to close the ring down and catch Jamie with his overhand right but Jamie kept walking him down and kept up a high striking rate using kicks and punches at distance and powerful knees in close to get an emphatic win. Win to Jamie.
K1 English WKO Open Champion at 78kgs (18-34 years) Jamie Brown

Amateur A Class K1 Rules 15-16 years F 50.1-54kgs
Final (2 x 1 Minute Rounds)
Regan Maher v Charity Raaijakers (Netherlands)
A fast paced fight with Regan up against an experienced and well schooled opponent. Regan used her strong push kicks and took the fight to the girl with the win going to Charity Jaaijakers.
Amateur A Class K1 Rules 16 years M 72-75kgs
Final (2 x 1 Minute Rds)
Joe Woollard v Keowan Eaton (Hybrid Kickboxing Amble)
Another fast paced fight with lots of activity from both fighters. Joe scored well with his knees at closer range and came back at his opponent in the second round but over a two round bout his opponent had edged it in terms of aggression and pushing forward. Win to Keowan Eaton.
Well done to all our fighters. To Billy and Jamie on their Wins; and Regan and Joe on their hard fought losses. All these fighters are next competing at the ISKA Open Championships on March 13th at North Solihull Leisure Centre, Birmingham.
