WKO K1 Open Championships 23/10/22


Well done to our fighters Jamie and Billie Brown, Sam Campbell, and Joe Woollard who all took part in this WKO sanctioned K1 Open Championship in Luton with coach Shane Kent.

Jamie Brown our new WKO K1 World Open Champion in both the Men’s 74 – 78Kgs Category and Men’s 78 – 80 kgs Category.

Winner Jamie Brown v Marcin Durkacz (Syndicate Muay Thai)
A Class K1 Rules 21–40YRS (78-80 kgs)

A clear win on points for Jamie over three rounds.

Winner Jamie Brown v Karol Szymiewcicz (Poland Syndicate Muay Thai)
A Class K1 Rules 19–29YRS (74.1-78 kgs)

K. Szymiewcicz was a strong forward fighter who was determined to push Jamie back and dominate the ring.  Jamie used his ring craft and timing to his advantage, and caught Szymiewcicz with a left hook in the second round resulting in a stoppage by KO, and new K1 World Open Champion at 74.1 – 78 kgs.

Winner Sam Campbell v Chris Dyas (Falcons Kickboxing Club)   19YRS + (66.1 – 70 kgs)

Congratulations to Sam Campbell whose stoppage of C Dyas in first round of the semi-final took him into the final.

Winner Sam Campbell v Eamonn O Byrne (Black Dragon Gym Galway)

Both of Sam’s fighters came from respected and quality gyms. Sam had his work cut out in the final to keep the pressure on and outwork his opponent each round which he successfully did. A win on all judge’s scorecards saw Sam as the new 19 Yrs + K1 World Open Champion at 66 – 70 kgs.

Billy Brown v Dominic Krzysztoforski (Syndicate Muay Thai ) A Class K1 Rules 15 – 16YRs (66.1 – 70 kgs)

Tough fight for Billy who fought well in this Semi Final.  His opponent outworked him at close range and got the win.

Joe Woollard v Reggie Little (SCA) A Class K1 Rules 17 – 18YRS (66.1 – 70KGS)

Reggie Little is a very experienced and skilful fighter who has come up from the junior ranks.  Joe was showing good defensive and counter attack skills but Reggie’s timing of a strong right resulted in a stoppage.
